Phytosterols E-mail
Phytosterols are vegetable substances that are naturally present in fruit, vegetables, pulses, seeds, grains, peanuts and nuts. Due to their chemical similarity to cholesterol, they decrease the level of absorption and production of cholesterol. This leads to a reduction in the level of our blood cholesterol.

Due to this property, phytosterols are effective in preventing cardiovascular diseases. A daily intake of 1 to 3 grams is sufficient to produce a beneficial effect to our health. A higher intake will not lead to additional benefits.

On average, peanuts and nuts contain 118 milligrams of phytosterols per 100 grams. This corresponds with about 12% of the daily intake of 1 gram. The cholesterol-reducing effect has been shown scientifically with an intake of 1 gram a day. There are also special products on the market with added phytosterols to reduce cholesterol levels.
